On 30 th September the City Council of Marbella adopted an institutional declaration by which it officially recognized and condemned the Armenian Genocide. All the political powers represented at the voting voted unanimously in favor of the declaration. During the debates at the City Council the representatives of the political parties discussed the importance of the internacional recognition of Armenian Genocide and its preventive character.
On September 27 th the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia to the Kingdom of Spain organized a reception in Madrid dedicated to the 25 th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Armenia. During his speech, the Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to the Kingdom of Spain Mr. Avet Adonts talked about the achievements accomplished during those 25 years, the importance of establishing long lasting stability and peace in the region and the relations between the Republic of Armenia and the European Union.

09.06.2016 • Merida recognized the Armenian Genocide
On June 9th the Spanish city of Merida recognized officially and condemned the Armenian Genocide. The four political forces represented at the Municipal Plenum approved by unanimity the petition presented by Ararat Armenian Association. The adopted institutional declaration qualifies the facts, which took place between 1915 and 1923 as Crime against the humanity and first genocide of the XX century.

On January 22 th at the city of hall of Alcala de Henares, Community of Madrid an exposition dedicated to the commemoration of the centenary of the Armenian Genocide took place. The exposition was named “ The Incessant Belfry ”. Traditional costumes of different regions of the historic Armenia , photographs of khachkars (cross-stones), maps and documentary photographs of the Genocide were exposed.
